The EQUALCity project officially kicked off with its first physical consortium meeting in Cairo, Egypt, from 19 to 21 January 2026. The meeting brought together all project partners from the MENA region and Europe to align on project objectives, activities, and expected outcomes.

During the three-day event, partners discussed the project management and coordination structure (WP1), finalized the work plan for beneficiaries’ status assessment and EICC lab setup (WP2), and reviewed the academic preparation and curricula development strategy (WP3). Practical sessions allowed partners to plan upcoming capacity-building activities, quality assurance procedures, and dissemination efforts.

The meeting also provided a platform for partners to exchange knowledge, share expertise, and strengthen collaboration across institutional, regional, and disciplinary boundaries. This in-person gathering marked an important milestone in ensuring smooth project implementation and fostering a strong consortium network.

The Kick-Off meeting concluded with a clear roadmap for the next steps, including lab preparations, training sessions, and stakeholder engagement activities, ensuring that EQUALCity moves forward with a shared vision of promoting resilient, human-centered, and sustainable urban development in the MENA region.
